Your doctors and Rx checked

Before you enroll we confirm that your preferred doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions are covered by the plan you choose.

Your data stays private

We never sell or share your contact information with third-party lead aggregators. Only Insurancy agents reach out.

Common questions

Health insurance quote FAQ

Everything you need to know about ACA Marketplace plans, subsidies, Open Enrollment, Special Enrollment Periods, short-term medical, HSAs, and how shopping health insurance through a licensed independent agent works.

Are health insurance quotes through Insurancy really free?

Yes. Comparing health insurance through Insurancy is 100% free. Whether you enroll in an ACA Marketplace plan, a short-term medical plan, or a private off-exchange plan, the price is identical to enrolling direct with the carrier or through Healthcare.gov. We are compensated by the insurance carrier upon enrollment, never by you.

When can I enroll in health insurance?

The ACA Open Enrollment Period (OEP) runs each fall, typically November 1 to January 15 for coverage taking effect the following January or February. Outside of OEP, you can enroll only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Short-term medical, supplemental, dental, and vision plans can usually be purchased year round.

What is a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)?

A SEP lets you enroll in or change ACA Marketplace coverage outside of Open Enrollment. Common qualifying events include losing employer or Medicaid coverage, getting married or divorced, having a baby or adopting, moving to a new ZIP code or state, becoming a U.S. citizen, and significant income changes. Most SEPs allow a 60-day window from the qualifying event.

How do I know if I qualify for a premium subsidy?

ACA premium subsidies (Advance Premium Tax Credits, or APTC) are based on your household income relative to the federal poverty level and the cost of the second-lowest Silver plan in your area. Through 2025, expanded subsidies under the Inflation Reduction Act make many middle-income households eligible too. Your Insurancy agent runs your numbers in real time and shows you both your subsidized and unsubsidized options.

What is the difference between Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum metal tiers?

Metal tiers describe how much of your medical costs the plan covers on average. Bronze plans (~60% covered) have the lowest premiums but the highest out-of-pocket costs. Silver (~70%) is the most common tier and unlocks Cost Sharing Reductions for lower-income enrollees. Gold (~80%) has higher premiums but lower out-of-pocket. Platinum (~90%) is the most expensive premium with the lowest costs at the doctor.

What is a deductible, copay, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximum?

The deductible is what you pay before insurance starts paying (e.g., $1,500). The copay is a flat fee for certain services (e.g., $25 for a doctor visit). Coinsurance is your share of the cost after the deductible is met (e.g., 20%). The out-of-pocket maximum is the absolute most you will pay in a calendar year for in-network care. Once you hit it, the plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the year.

Can I keep my doctor and prescriptions on a new health plan?

Often yes, but it depends on the carrier and plan network. HMOs require in-network providers; PPOs let you see out-of-network providers at higher cost. Before you enroll, your Insurancy agent checks each plan’s network for your current doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions so there are no surprises in January.

What is short-term health insurance?

Short-term medical (STM) is non-ACA coverage that bridges a gap, for example between jobs, after aging off a parent’s plan, or during a SEP wait. STM plans are usually less expensive but exclude pre-existing conditions and many essential health benefits (maternity, mental health parity). They are best for healthy adults who need temporary, emergency-only coverage and cannot wait until Open Enrollment.

Do I have to answer health questions or share my medical history?

Not for ACA Marketplace plans. Under the Affordable Care Act, carriers cannot deny you coverage or charge you more because of pre-existing conditions on a Marketplace plan. For short-term medical, supplemental, or private off-exchange plans, some underwriting and health questions may apply.

What is an HSA-qualified health plan?

An HSA-qualified plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) that lets you contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSA contributions are tax-deductible, grow tax-free, and can be withdrawn tax-free for qualified medical expenses. In 2025, you can contribute up to $4,300 (individual) or $8,550 (family). Many self-employed shoppers and high earners prefer HSAs for the triple tax advantage.

Can I add dental and vision coverage to my health plan?

Yes. Adult dental and vision are not always included in Marketplace plans, but Insurancy can quote standalone dental and vision policies alongside your medical plan. We compare carriers like Delta Dental, Humana, MetLife, VSP, EyeMed, and others, and you can bundle for a single monthly bill.

Which health insurance carriers do you compare?

Insurancy compares quotes from top-rated U.S. health carriers, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter, Blue Cross Blue Shield (state plans), Cigna, Humana, Molina, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and many regional carriers. Availability depends on your ZIP code, plan year, and household details.

What if I have a pre-existing condition?

On ACA Marketplace and most off-exchange Major Medical plans, pre-existing conditions are fully covered with no waiting periods. Your premium is based on your age, location, tobacco use, household, and plan, never on your health status. For short-term medical, supplemental, and some non-ACA plans, pre-existing condition exclusions may apply - your agent will flag that on every quote.

Will Insurancy sell my information or send me marketing calls?

No. Insurancy does not sell, rent, or share your contact information with third-party lead aggregators. The only people who will contact you are licensed Insurancy health agents helping with the quotes you requested. If you ever want us to stop, just say so.

How long does it take to compare health insurance plans?

Most households complete the Insurancy form in about 2 minutes. A licensed agent then calls or texts you with side-by-side quotes - usually within the same business day. Once you pick a plan, enrollment typically takes 10 to 20 minutes by phone or online.
